Black and White

today my flower obsession is in black and white. and a little blue and red throw in there too. and pink. I’m a huge fan of the traditional japanese plum and cherry blossom patterns and they pop up in my work on a regular basis- like this one. I’m working on a series with strong black outlines- i love the contrast and the punch the black can bring to an image. the palette of this one is quite wintery, despite the floral – i guess i cant completely escape the chill. i have a few more colorways I’m working on – going to try to reverse the contrast and see what happens. fun! i would love this on a bag or perhaps one wall of a bedroom in wallpaper, with some matching bedding too. this one would be great as a traditional tenugui- the handiest home textile item ever.
