Today is the beginning of an epic, six-month long competition that I have been chosen for- one of ten designers from around the world and I am SO excited! And nervous!! And thrilled at my great good fortune!!!! The big announcement is here. Today is the day my brain gets back in gear and gets to think up new and delectable patterns to adorn fabric for quilts!!! I have been positively devouring library books about quilting for the past few weeks in preparation for this new chapter in my designing life. Very inspiring stuff! I’m definitely going to make at least one quilt before the year is up- that’s right at LEAST one. And it will feature fabric I design- and it will be super cozy and hopefully gorgeous!!! Straight seams have never been my forte, so I’m going to have to work on that. But you know, I love a challenge. And that’s one of the reasons I am SOOO excited to get going in this contest: I want to challenge myself as a designer. Learn new techniques on the tech side. Hone my skills in repeats. Go deeper into colour and colour combinations- possibly my favourite thing ever. So much to learn and explore– YIPPEEE! Stay tuned for more as the competition unfolds. I will be taking everyone on a tour of my studio in a couple of weeks- and then in March the first design challenge will be announced, and revealed!

It’s a new adventure, and I am so so happy to be part of it!

Wow that’s so great Kate! Congratulations. And you are the only Canadian! Good luck. I’m sure you will rock this contest! Can’t wait to see your stuff.
